Tamara Nelsen
Welcome to Nelsen For Council. This site is intended to be where the voters of Sidney can learn more about me as a candidate and my views on the issues. As a former editor of The Sun-Telegraph, and most recently a reporter for sidneystagecoach.com, I am the ideal candidate for council because of my knowledge of the community. For the past several years, I have reported on school board and county commissioner meetings, attending meetings of several political subdivisions such as the Sidney Historic Preservation board, the Sidney Historical Association, the fair board and city council. If I wasn’t covering an event, I was likely editing someone else’s report on it. That goes for community events in general. People will most likely recognize me as the lady with the camera, as I have had the privilege of being inside the ropes, front and center, for just about every major news event in Sidney recently. I have interviewed everyone from senators to a local woman who grew a batch of strange looking carrots.

About Me

I like power tools (and use them) but prefer to have someone else kill spiders.
I love to read, both fiction and nonfiction.
I have been on the Way Out West Board of Directors for several years, have been in several productions and directed shows. I have won four Hammie awards.
I would rather spend a day shooting Sporting Clays than just about anything else, except maybe spending a day with my camera. I have a few pages on this blog with my photos because I think the old saying of a picture painting a thousands word is true, and it gives you a chance to see Sidney through my eyes and therefore understand the the love of this community that I have.
I am extremely proud of having won two Nebraska Associated Press awards in 2009 for Feature Photography, taking first and third.
I like to fish and hunt. I think the venison is even tastier when you put it on the table yourself.
I was raised on a farm near Oconto, Nebraska. I am one of six children, with 18 nieces and nephews, and seven great-nieces and nephews. My parents graduated from high school in 1941, and my younger brother graduated from high school in 1986. (You can do the math.)
Mom died on Memorial Day in 2004, and we buried Dad the day after Christmas in 2006. I still miss them both every day.
I have lived in Chadron, Kearney and Lincoln and now, of course, Sidney. Been here for 12 years and proud to say I can't really ever see calling anywhere but Nebraska 'home.'
I am 47 years old, and have been married to Mark for 19 years. (Where does time go?) Mark is a Senior Marketing Manager for Cabela’s Brand Management Department.
